10 Emotional Intelligence Techniques to Help You Cope with Life
from:Emotional intelligence is a fairly new breakthrough. Many people think that an IQ test can determine how successful a person is going to be in life. However, psychologists disagree with this. An IQ test does not really determine the full abilities of any person. People have learned that a person's ability to cope with emotions can be very important in determining his or her progress in life.
Emotional intelligence is the ability of a person to perceive and assess the emotions of other people and of his or her self. Emotional intelligence is very important since it often determines a person's ability to make use of his or her resources properly.
People who find themselves lacking in emotional intelligence often turn to different things to help them cope with the problem. They read different materials and take different courses on how to raise their emotional intelligence. However, unlike book knowledge which can be assimilated in a person through a class or through reading, emotional intelligence needs to be acquired through life experience. Some people have emotional intelligence ingrained in them from their childhood, giving them with the ability to cope with people and life as a whole.
Here are some emotional intelligence techniques to help you accomplish what so many people are trying to do. By following these emotional intelligence techniques, you will be able to raise your awareness of the range of human emotion and its effects.
Emotional literacy - You need to learn how to give your emotions labels in order to understand them better. Many people who fail to understand their feelings tend to blame other people or their environment for their emotions. You need to understand your feelings instead of lashing out at your environment.
Turn emotion into energy - When you feel angry, try to use the energy that the feeling brings. Use that energy to do something productive. This emotional intelligence technique will not only help you cope with your emotions but it will also help you succeed in life. When you think that you are feeling angry remember that anger brings with it energy. It is okay to feel anger, but you need to use the energy it brings into something that will release that anger, not feed it.
Show respect for others - This emotional intelligence technique will help you improve your social interaction. Ina nutshell, this emotional intelligence technique is based on the famous proverb "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you". Before you make an action, remember that you are not the only one with emotions. You need to consider the possibility that your actions may be disrespectful to other people's emotions.
Choose people - You need to be careful about choosing who you hang around with. This emotional intelligence technique helps you make sure that you foster your self- esteem. By choosing the right people, you will be able to hang around with those who care about your emotions.
Take responsibility for your emotions - Stop thinking that other people make you happy or sad. You should realize the fact that you are in control of your emotions. You could feel "down in the dumps" but it is not the fault of others. You chose to feel that way. This emotional intelligence technique can go a long way in helping you live a full life.
